How to raise goats – what do you need to know before getting goats?

These are the basic necessities for raising goats: 1.) Good fencing 2.) Adequate shelter 3.) Good quality hay/browse and fresh water 4.) A high-quality mineral supplement Goat Fencing: On our farm, we use both goat and sheep fencing and no-climb horse fencing - both 4ft tall. Whatever you choose, I highly recommend woven wire fencing, with either a 2x4 or 4x4 opening. The welded wire fencing, while cheaper, doesn't hold up as well in the long run. We raise Nigerian Dwarf goats and we've found the ... Read more

About our Cold-Processed Soap

goat milk honey soap with jar of milk and honey wand

I started making cold-processed soap several years ago when I was looking for a way to use up some of our extra goat milk. After watching several YouTube videos, I jumped right in and ordered all the supplies I would need and got to work making my first batch. As with anything new that you try, there are always learning curves. My first bars of soap were definitely not pretty! I continued on and tried many different recipes and used many different oils until I started perfecting my method and formulas. Another thing that motivated me to learn the art of soap-making is my very sensitive skin. I found many commercial soaps and body washes to be full of chemicals and very harsh often ... Read more

Biscuit Cinnamon Roll Recipe

cinnamon roll biscuits in a cast iron pan with a rolling pin and bench scraper

These quick rolls are a family favorite. They are great for those mornings when you really want cinnamon rolls, but don't have time to wait on a yeast dough to rise. First, gather your ingredients. You'll need flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cold butter and half-and-half to start. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together. Once mixed, add your chunks of cold butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour until it's well combined, but be careful not to over mix. Add your half-and-half to the flour and mix together until combined. At this point you're ready to roll out the dough. On a floured surface, roll out the ... Read more

It looks like it will be a few days before the sun It looks like it will be a few days before the sun shines again after today, so I took my time doing chores this morning and soaked up the beautiful sunrise and warm weather before the rain and snow hit later today. I love a good snow, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ready for spring!
Most goat owners are starting their kidding season Most goat owners are starting their kidding season right now, but we're just starting our breeding for the year. We've been milking every day for the past 11 months and we plan to travel some this spring/early summer so we were holding off on breeding the girls. Quanah came into heat today and I decided we had waited long enough and decided to let Diesel be her a boyfriend for the day - which made her very happy! If she settles, she will kick off our kidding season in mid-June. We will continue milking for another month then dry the girls off and have a 4-month break. We'll appreciate the downtime, but miss the milk so we've been freezing as much as we can.

Breeding: OldRuggedCross JF Quanah x Roamn Ranch Blu Diesel.
